6 weeks

I can't believe he is already 6 weeks old. It is amazing how much bigger he looks and feels. We took him to the doctor yesterday and he is almost 10 pounds!!! I was just commenting that when I pick him up he doesn't feel like a fragile newborn anymore he feels like a solid baby! We are starting to see his smile more and more and I am wondering if there is anything better than that! We are moving this weekend and are very thankful that my whole family is coming in to help. I am not sure that Zach will notice, but he will finally be getting his own room AND since the place is a little too big for us right now he will also be getting his own playroom which I am sure he will enjoy eventually. Maggie (our lab/shepard) on the other hand will definitely notice as she will be finally getting the yard she has been wanting! We will put up some pictures of the new place as soon as things settle down. I wanted to put up a few more pictures of our weekend with our wonderful friends Lin and Ben.

Taking a break from the DC heat in Senator Allards office. There is that smile we love so much!

Whoops...Zach spit up all over daddy at the Air and Space museum. I think all of those planes made him a little air sick.

Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend we had some friends visiting from California. We did a lot of sightseeing around the area, and Zach proved to be a hearty traveller. Here we are with the Washington Monument in the background:

Zach rode the Metro:
Zach had a meal outside of the National Gallery:

Zach had his diaper changed inside the office of a United States Senator (seriously!):

Zach enjoyed his father's hilarious sense of humor:

And Zach was generally cute in other ways as well:

Stay tuned for more pictures! We're going to be moving in a few days, but after that we'll post some more.

One Month and counting...

Here are some new(ish) pictures of Zach. He's doing great--he's been making some faces that bear a striking resemblance to a smile! I'm not sure if month-old babies smile, but Zach is very advanced....
Tonight, Zach was making smiley-faces, and I was desperately trying to get a picture of it. I couldn't get the smile, but I did get these:

Here he's getting ready to head out on the town:

Pictures from his first bath! A momentous day...

His life will never be the same

All around, things are going great! We've discovered lots of new things, like the fact that I can sleep through almost anything, including Bethany's attempts to wake me. Zach has discovered some of his favorite hobbies: he likes to be in his swing, look out the window, and pee into the air when his diaper is being changed. As you can see, he has a very busy schedule.

A few more pictures...

...because I just couldn't resist.

This is the face he makes when he is really ready to eat. He also makes a cute little snorting noise with it. Hey, I will take that over crying when he wants to eat any day.

Yesterday it was so hot that he spent a lot of time laying around in just his diapers. Also, that way I get to see more of his cute little body!

Daddy, Maggie and Zach lounging after work.

He loves the swing and it means Andy and I both get to sit down for dinner at the same time.

Morning cuddle time...one of my favorite times of the day.

Three Weeks

It has been a little while since I have posted anything on here as Zach and I have been navigating our first week together, just the two of us at home during the day. Andy's mom left on Sunday and Andy went back to work on Monday so this week has been full of a lot of firsts. Andy's brother David and his fiancee Emily came to visit last weekend and met their Nephew for the first time. With their visit came Zach's first trip to a restaurant to celebrate cinco-de-mayo. It was much more traumatic for me than him as I was sure his hearing was being permanently ruined by all of the noise and that his nervous system had to be on overload, but he was fine and slept through the entire thing. He also attended his first birthday party as his cousin Nina turned two this week. The trip to the birthday party meant his first car ride in the back by himself. He didn't like that at all and we were both in tears by the time we got home. He also experienced his first trip to Target. He didn't like Target so much. He certainly got that from Andy! After a few hard trips out of the house just the two of us I was ready to settle in and not leave the house again until he was five years old. Andy, however, decided that wasn't a good idea and convinced me to get back on the horse. The next day we went to a group for new moms at the Maternity Center and it was a much more successful trip. There were lots of other moms and babies there and two of the babies were exactly his age. I think that group will be very fun for us to be involved in. Anyway, here are some new cute pictures.
Thanks for the towel Alli and Bob--we love it!

Hanging out with his friend Josiah...they somehow managed to link their arms on their own which was very cute!

Two Weeks

The past two weeks have gone by so quickly and I still feel like I am walking in a dream. I keep looking at Zach and thinking, "Is he really ours? Do we really get to keep him?" I love getting to know new things about him each day. For example, we actually heard what his cry sounds like for the first time a few days ago. Even that sounded precious and we haven't heard it since. We had our two week check up today and he now weighs. 7lbs. and 9oz...that means he gained 12oz in a week. We are very proud of him and so was his doctor. He is obviously quite the eater these days. After a wonderful week with his Grandma (my mom) last week he is having fun getting to know his Grandmom (Andy's mom) this week.

Zach loves "tummy time" and already has quite the strong neck!

So far Maggie has been a wonderful big sister.

Sorry this picture is so dark, but he is so cute sleeping on his side and we didn't want to wake him up with the flash.

More cute "tummy time" pictures on the wonderful blanket that Aunt Mary made him.

This is one of my favorite pictures. He looks so happy and peaceful in his little chair, but truly he is just that sweet and content all the time. We just love him so much!!!
